The Educational Deaf Interpreter (EDI) role is responsible for American Sign Language (ASL) linguistic modelling and support to Deaf signing students, along with facilitating the learning of Deaf culture in various educational settings.
Day-to-day, the EDI:
- Provides the Deaf student with ASL instruction in the classroom and social settings
- Supports the student in their learning of the differences between the unique cultures of home and classroom
- Works alongside the classroom teacher, Supervisor of Educational Interpreting Services, Education Support Teacher -DHH, and ASL Specialists
