The Environmental Assessment Office (EAO) is a stand‑alone, neutrally administered regulator required by law to conduct rigorous reviews of major projects in British Columbia, including some of the largest industrial projects in Canada. The environmental assessment process requires thorough assessment of any potential environmental, economic, social, cultural, and health effects. The EAO is part of the Ministry of Environment and Parks, responsible for protection, management, and conservation of B.C.’s water, land, air, and living resources, and supporting reconciliation with First Nations is a key purpose.
